Google credits its enormous success to “hiring and retaining the brightest talent,” as well as “encouraging deep collaboration and granting substantial creative space to its teams.” Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt has played an instrumental role in the hiring and recruiting process. “One of the things about companies is, as you build them, you determine the culture, the people, the style. And one of the things that I learned is that it makes an enormous difference who you hire at every level, and people don’t really manage that.”
